Afzal Khan known as RobinHood in the Bangladesh got permanent bail in the case of murder, rape and fraud from the Dhaka Judge Court recently.
On 21 December 2023, a call came to 999 from South Keranigonj to rescue a stuck parrot from an electric pillar. 999 authorities forwarded the call to RobinHood Animal Rescuer for the rescue of a parrot. Afzal Khan, along with his associates, presented there to rescue the bird and waited for the power to stop. In the meantime, one of their volunteer, Atif, willingly tried to rescue the bird without any kind of protective tools or permission from RobinHood. On this day, Atif reached the spot first for the short distance from his home and the spot. Atif was injured by electricity and died while undergoing treatment.
After about one year, in basis of this occurrence, the step mother of Atif filed a murder case with rape and fraudulent work allegations on 29 October 2024 against RobinHood, his family and staffs.
Khilghon Thana and Keranigonj Thana Police jointly arrested RobinHood`s wife, Sherin Arfa Anny, and Monowara Akhter Munia for this case, and they got bail after 14 days of detention.
After seven consecutive months of trial, the Dhaka district session judge court permanently acquitted RobinHood and other accused persons.
Advocate Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, the lawyer of RobinHood, informed that RobinHood previously got 8 weeks` advance bail from the high court, now he gets the permanent bail from the district session judge court.
Advocate Ahmed Al Erfan, assistant public prosecutor of the 2nd additional session judge court of Dhaka, said, RobinHood should continue his noble works for the sake of helpless animals. There is no legal bar to continuing the work of Robin Hood Animal Rescuer.
Md Delwar Hossain, President of Aqua and Pet Animal Society of Katabon, said, No one in Bangladesh without RobinHood is a brave rescuer, he is an asset for our country, he has done many risky works in the past for animals. He should not stop the rescue activities because of the criticisms of jealous people.
RobinHood expresses gratitude to Almighty Allah for this bail. He said a vested group of my former staff defame my work and criticize my personal life, which was baseless. As my social page and account are operated by my staff who were sacked for unethical job, he spread my picture to others and made a blunder of my work, after which the helpless animal rescue operation was stopped.
RobinHood, an animal rescuer, worked for helpless animals from 2010 and enlisted in an organization with the National Emergency Helpdesk 999 in 2019. Robin Hood Animal Rescuer has rescued thousands of animals across the country and RobinHood maintains a shelter home for the helpless animals where more than 100 animals live.
